Buma Presents: The Dutch Touch
Despite relatively little media hype, Dutch producers and musicians whave been quietly and efficiently getting on with the serious business of rocking dancefloors all over the world since the late 80s. From the early days of Eddie de Clerq and the legendary Ben Liebrand, through to Joris Voorn, Ferry Corsten, Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Laidback Luke, Chuckie, Fedde le Grand, Martyn and many more, Dutch electronic acts have had a huge influence on the global scene and continue to do so. In this star-studded opening panel, Voorn, van Buuren, Corsten and Chuckie discuss what influenced them in their formative years, exactly what it is that distinguishes Dutch electronica, where they see its influence in other non-Dutch artists, and where they are heading musically over the next couple of years...
Moderator: Job de Wit (Blueprint Media / DJBroadcast, NL)
Job de Wit is the newly appointed editor-in-chief of Amsterdam-based DJBroadcast magazine (online and print). As a music journalist he has written for many national (and some international) publications, mainly but not exclusively about dance music and hip-hop. For eleven years he hosted his own dance music show on national radio station 3FM. In 2008 he published his first book Roxy en de houserevolutie, a definitive account of the house music explosion in the Netherlands. As a DJ with a predilection for disco and house, he has played at Amsterdam clubs like Club Up, Melkweg and Bitterzoet, as well as the 5 Days Off and Valtifest festivals.
Armin van Buuren (NL)
Armin has been named number one in the prestigious DJ MAG Top 100 poll four times in a row, as the first DJ in the history of the DJ Magazine and an indication of his prolific output over the more than 14 years he’s been dj’ing and producing.
Chuckie (NL)
He may have shared his name with some famous others over the years but Chuckie’s name has become synonymous with the fun side of jacking, and full throttle, energetic dance music - its safe to say he's forging his own special path of late and building his profile.
Ferry Corsten (NL)
Ferry Corsten, also known under the alias System F, is a producer of Trance music, in addition to being a DJ and remixer. He also hosts his own weekly radio show, Corsten's Countdown. He routinely plays at events all over the world to crowds in the tens of thousands.
Joris Voorn (NL)
Electronic music first caught his attention in the mid-90's, and he started DJ'ing in 1997. As a DJ and live performer Joris Voorn has joined an elite group of international DJ's whose musical talent has acquired global appeal. He has performed across Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Austsralia, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Israel, Detroit, Chicago and New York.
